Kevin Was Wrong… Again

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Yesterday afternoon Lisa and I were shopping at Costco, and she proved me wrong again.

It’s starting to get pretty warm around here.

In fact, we hit 90 degrees yesterday, which is pretty uncommon for this time of year in Seattle.

Anyways, we were looking at these fancy-schmancy tower fans, that even came with a remote.

My comment to her was, “Those things probably aren’t any good, we should just get a regular fan”.

But she insisted, so I reluctantly agreed to buy one so we could try it out.

After getting home, unpacking the fan and turning it on, I discovered that I was wrong… again.

And let me tell you, this kind of thing happens on a regular basis.

It wasn’t he first time that Lisa proved me wrong, and it certainly won’t be the last.

Long story short, we were back at Costco last night, picking up several more tower fans.

The big lesson here is that we’ve got to be open to suggestion.

To new ideas.

To new ways of doing things.

Last week when I was in Salt Lake City visiting my friend Garrett Gunderson, he told me about a ton of wealth building and business strategies I’d never heard of before.

My eyes were opened to a whole new world, and as a result, I decided to hire his services.

Here’s what’s interesting about this.

Most people who’ve been in business as long as I have would NOT be open to learning new things.

Instead, they mistakenly believe that they already know everything there is to know.

And what a mistake that is.

By thinking this way, they seriously handicap themselves.

While they struggle to get by with their limited knowledge, people like you and I continue to seek out new sources of information, looking for that slight edge.

In the process, we’re steadily taking the lead, and before you know it, we’ve left our competitors in the dust.

So go ahead and feel superior for being one of my subscribers.

For continually increasing your knowledge.

For wanting more out of life.

You’re in good company.

My 6 List Building Secrets

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

One of the biggest questions people ask me is, “How do I build a HUGE subscriber list”?

Problem is, this isn’t the right question.

Yes, building a list is important, but your focus shouldn’t be on solely building a list.

The correct question to ask is this:

How can I connect with people in a meaningful way, and in the process, give them a HUGE amount of value?

Here’s the deal…

Most people doing business on the internet have grandiose dreams of having a huge subscriber list with 100’s and 100’s of thousands of people.

Yet they don’t give any thought at all to how they’ll monetize that list.

I ended last year with a relatively small list – 13,185 to be exact.

I also had my best year ever when it comes to income, grossing just a hair over 1 Millyun.

And yes, the misspelling was intentional.

I thought twice about sharing this figure with you, because the last thing I want you to think is that I’m bragging.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I simply want you to see what’s possible.

By the same token, I know people who have lists numbering 50,000… 80,000… 150,000 and beyond, who didn’t come anywhere close the sales volume I produced.

How is this possible?

In order to answer this question, I’ll need to give you a closer look behind-the-scenes of my own business.

When building my subscriber list, my number one concern is NOT quantity.

My number one concern is quality.

That being the case, I do things a little bit different from everyone else.

Here’s my 6 biggest secrets:

1. I offer my new subscribers something of “real value” in exchange for their contact information.

2. Once you’ve given me your contact information and become a subscriber, I immediately begin building a relationship with you, using multiple media, such as email, blog, video, audio, “live” training events by phone, and even “live” meetings in person at my home.

3. I do not continually try to “sell” garbage products and services to you. In fact, the overwhelming majority of my communication is simply meant to offer you more value.

4. I understand that my subscriber list is the most valuable asset in my business, and as a result, I always keep your best interest at heart, and would never do anything to jeopardize your trust.

5. I’m continually looking for quality people that I can introduce you to, who have something of real value to offer.

6. Because of the relationship we have, whenever I do let you know about a product or service, you already know it’s gonna be good, and as a result – if it’s a right fit, you naturally want to take the next step by getting involved.

So there you have it.

My 6 biggest list building secrets.

It should give you great comfort, knowing that you do NOT need to have a huge list in order to produce a VERY nice income for you and your family.

You can do extremely well and live the lifestyle of your choosing with a relatively small list… when you follow the steps I’ve just outlined.

When it comes right down to brass tacks, it’s all about creating relationships and building massive value.

Run In on Flight 4798

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Last Saturday morning, as I boarded flight 4798 home from Salt Lake City, an interesting thing happened.

When I walked onto the aircraft, one of the pilots was standing at the door to the cockpit, and he says, “I want to welcome you aboard Kevin Thompson”.

The look of amazement must have shown clear in my facial expression, as I immediately wondered how the pilot knew who I was.

Since I wasn’t able to come up with any good answers to this question on my own, I had to ask, “How do you know my name”?

“Because I’m one of your clients”, he responded.

As you can imagine, this caught me by surprise.

Nothing like this has ever happened before.

After exchanging a few short words, I suggested that the two of us get a photo together.

Chris (the pilot) agreed, but suggested we do it after landing in Seattle.

When we landed, I waited for everyone else to exit the plane, so I could spend a few minutes talking with Chris.

Little did I know what a humbling experience it would be.

It’s not often that we get the opportunity to interact with people like this, and I’d like to believe that the incident left a positive impact on Chris as well.

You see, most people in my position have this way of making themselves unapproachable.

Making themselves impossible to reach.

Keeping other people at bay.

If you’ve been a member for any period of time, you already know that this isn’t the way I operate.

No, you’re probably not gonna be able to pick up the phone and reach me at a moments notice.

But I definitely keep the lines of communication wide open.

The way I see it, my goal is to give back to you, by sharing what I’ve discovered over the years.

It would be a terrible thing to keep this knowledge to myself.

The better option is to share it with you, and in so doing I create a win-win situation for both of us.

As we were talking, Chris made another comment that I’ll never forget.

He said, “After reading your emails, I feel like we’re already friends”.

He was right.

Even though this was the first time we’d ever met in person, it felt like we’d known each other for years.

And there’s a big lesson here.

The purpose of your business is to connect with other people, and then offer them value.

Most people never get this.

Instead, they sell, sell sell, trying to make a buck – and in the process, potential customers are turning away.

Why?

Because none of us likes to be sold.

We want relationships with people who have something of value to offer us.

We want to feel understood.

We want to have meaningful relationships.

And here’s the great news…

When you understand this concept, and put it to use, people will beat a path to your door, and yes, they’ll gladly pay you for the products or services you have to offer.

As you know, I just got home from Utah.

While there, I discovered that we’re moving into one of the most unique periods in history.

If you’re like me, you’ll want to discover how you can benefit.

After watching this video, if you like what you hear, be sure to post your comments at the bottom of the page.

If enough of you respond, I’ll talk Garrett into joining us for a special “members only” event.
