Here’s a video from the late, great Paul Harvey that offers an amazing example of “selling without selling”…
Pay close attention to the first 1 minute and 19 seconds.
On Tuesday – July 14th I told you about the email I got, asking me how in the heck I make so much money online when I don’t even try selling stuff in my communications with you.
He says, “Most of the other people I hear from are constantly trying to sell me on this, that and the other thing, yet you hardly ever do that Kevin.
How in the heck do you do so well for yourself when all you do is send me this really cool stuff”?
I promised to answer his question for you, and today is the day.
If you remember, I gave you a little hint already.
I told you that it was called “selling-without-selling”.
More accurately, it’s called treating people with respect and dignity.
Assuming you were a subscriber at the time, you’ll recall me talking about Paul Harvey back in May.
Paul Harvey was a master at this.
Paul Harvey was considered a close personal friend by many of us, even though we’d never met him in person.
When I was a child, my parents used to listen to Paul, and they even rearranged their schedules if need be, so they wouldn’t miss hearing him.
What an incredible person he was, to have such a deep emotional connection with so many of us.
And the most interesting thing is this.
Because he had this connection, we liked him and we trusted him.
As a result, selling products and services was simple for Paul.
In fact, it was as though he sold us things – without selling at all.
And we would buy virtually ANY product he recommended – simply because HE recommended it.
And there’s a HUGE lesson here.
You see, no one cares about you, no one cares about me, no one cares about the products or services we have to offer.
No one cares about any of that – UNTIL they know that we care about them.
Until they feel that they know and trust us.
Until they have a relationship with us.
And that’s why you seldom see me selling anything.
I spend FAR more time creating a relationship with you.
Introducing you to my family.
Sharing personal experiences with you.
Letting you know that I care about you, and that I’m more than qualified to help you.
By creating a relationship like this, it lets you get to know, like and trust me.
When I do get around to letting you know about a product of service that I believe will help you – you think to yourself, “Wow, this guy Kevin has gone out of his way to provide me with some really cool stuff, and I appreciate that.
I’m gonna go ahead and take a look at what he has to offer me”.
After sending that email about Paul Harvey in May, I got a VERY interesting email back from Don Brown.
Don is a subscriber just like you, and he had the opportunity to meet Paul in person.
After reading it, I remember thinking to myself, “My life’s goal is to have the same impression on you”.
I’ll leave you with Don’s email.
Here it is:
Yes, Paul Harvey will certainly be missed by many.
He spoke at our High School Graduation Ceremonies, I think it was in 1957.
Our little community was located about 200 miles north of Denver, Colorado. in the ranching community around LaGrange, WY.
I think there were about 7 kids in the graduating class.
He wore a suit and spoke eloquently.
We were all surprised that he found the place, let alone bothered to show up.
He never even quibbled about the very small number of folks he’d traveled so far from home to talk with.
He spoke to us as if we were just as good as the biggest school in the country.
And he urged us as we went out into life to do our best and told us we could accomplish anything we set our minds to as long as we never gave up.
He was right.
Four from that class became teachers.
One a house wife, one a Superintendent of Public Instruction, and one became a farmer.
I never heard that any of the products he recommended failed.
I never heard him tell a lie.
Thanks again for sharing.
