The Dad Life

Monday, February 28th, 2011

I’m going to be totally up front and honest with you.

You’re not going to find any words of wisdom or brilliant advice that’s going to dramatically change your life.

You are going to find something that could very well make your day.

And if you’re a dad like me (or a parent for that matter), you’ll REALLY be able to relate to this.

So… sit back, relax, watch the video above… and enjoy.

Paying For Knowledge

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Wow, it’s been a busy week, and time seems to be flying by.

After last Thursday’s email and blog post, you made some great points about the value of paying for knowledge and secrets.

I especially liked what Randy and Shannon had to say.

Randy said, “Most people will not value information that has no price. Since they do not place a value on this “Free” information, they will not use it and it will be wasted and unused”.

And Shannon said, “People only value what they pay for. When you invest your time, money, and energy in learning something new, you value it a lot more than if someone just handed it to you. It’s the investing of ourselves that makes anything – relationships, learning, projects – worthwhile”.

I’ve been investing in myself for as long as I can remember.

When you think about it, pretty much all of us have been investing in ourselves, in one way or another.

Some of us have made good investments, while some have made, lets just say… not so good investments.

My friend Joe has a saying, “The worst investment you can ever make is in bad information”.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of bad information out there.

But… there’s also a lot of good information out there.

Your job is to sort through it, and find the good information.

Once you do, you must devour it, and implement it as fast as humanly possible.

The key lies in the implementation.

It does no good to invest in yourself, if you don’t apply what you’ve discovered.

And that applies to EVERY area of our lives.

Those who succeed most with what I teach are those who implement what I teach.

They’re the “doers”, and when and idea sparks in their mind, they don’t sit around contemplating it.

They take swift, decisive action on that idea.

In short, they implement, and they implement quickly.

By doing so, they’re able to get results, make necessary adjustments, and continue moving forward.

This in turn gives them a return on their investment.

This is an example as it relates to business, but the process is the same for every other area of our lives.

And like Shannon said, when we invest our time, money and energy into something, we value it a lot more than if it was just handed to us.

I’ll take that one step further, and say that the MORE we invest in ourselves, the MORE we value that investment.

Secrets = Money

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

The other morning I was reading an article about information marketing.

In the broadest of terms, I suppose this is what I do.

But I can tell you, when I meet someone for the first time, and they ask the question, “What do you do”, it’s no simple task to come up with an answer.

Even the people who know me best have a hard time explaining what I do.

Back to what I wanted to talk about today.

The writer made a comment in the article I was reading, and it gave me pause.

He said, and I quote, “Wealth results from knowing something that others do not know”.

When I look back over the last 10+ years of my life, that’s exactly how I created my own wealth… by sharing what I’ve discovered, with others who do not yet know what I know.

In short, I’m sharing the secrets of my own success.

And while some would say that there are no secrets, I would have to argue this fact.

There are DEFINITELY secrets.

In fact, what may be common knowledge to you and I, could easily be a secret to the person who doesn’t yet possess that knowledge.

And while I’m at it, I’ll make another bold statement.

Every one of us possesses information, or secrets, that other people would gladly pay us for, if they only knew we possessed it.

And it’s our job to share our knowledge with others.

That’s why I feel so strongly about what I do.

What a travesty it would be if I kept my knowledge to myself, or took it to the grave with me.

It’s far better that I share it with as many people as possible, so they can benefit from it as well.

There are some who would say that I should share my knowledge at no charge.

Yet if I did, that would be the biggest travesty of all.

Can you guess why that would be?

Give me your thoughts on this by commenting below, and after I’ve read what you have to say, I’ll be back with the answer.

Talk more with you then.

2 Year-Old World Traveler

Monday, February 14th, 2011

You may recall me telling you about the trip we took to Texas in January.

Lisa and I had taken the kids down there to visit my brother and his wife.

Upon landing in Seattle and getting off our return flight, I was able to capture this hilarious video of Brock, as he makes his way through the airport.

You may notice that it sounds like I’m out of breath, but in reality, I’d just finished laughing hysterically, as I fumbled through my luggage, trying to find my flip video.

One thing you’ll notice about Brock as you watch this video is that he’s extremely independent.

And though he’s only 2 years old, he’s already showing his entrepreneurial side.

So who am I to tell him no when he insists on doing something like this on his own?

There’s a huge lesson here, and if more people got it, they’d be a whole lot happier.

Sometimes, if you want the job done right, you’ve just got to take the bull by the horns and handle it yourself.

And whatever the outcome, good or bad… right or wrong… at least you took a proactive role in the situation.

Happy Valentines Day

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Just wanted to send a quick note to do one thing.

Nothing more, and nothing less.

To wish you a Happy Valentines Day and let you know that someone appreciates you.

Without you, I wouldn’t get to do what I do, which is have someone to share my thoughts, ideas and inspirations with.

And for that, I’m extremely thankful.

Hope you feel the same way.

If you’ve got a big “ah-ha” that has made a substantial impact on your life since you’ve been following along with me, I’d love to hear about it.

If you don’t mind sharing, you can post it below.
