Last Sunday was Mother’s Day, which gave me the opportunity to spoil my wife Lisa a little bit.

We spent the day at the beach, and for the most part, I watched over the kids so mom could just hang out and relax with the family.

And yes…

In case you’re wondering, I got her a couple nice things she’d been wanting, one of them being the new movie that just came out on DVD last week… The Vow.

Lisa and I went to see The Vow when we were in Santa Monica a few months ago, and she absolutely loved it.

Our daughter Kaitlynn took the above photos of Brock and Ellie and put them in a nice frame for mom as well.

Kait has always been that way, and prefers to give unique gifts that she made herself.

It just so happens that mom loves those kind of gifts.

So all in all, Lisa had a great Mother’s Day.

But I have to say, after keeping and eye on the kids all day, at a busy beach on a nice sunny day, where there were hundreds of other people enjoying the beautiful weather… I’ve got a whole new appreciation for what she does.

Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate my wife – to the moon and back.

But I need to tell her that FAR more than I’ve been telling her in the past.

Because the fact is, she’s an amazing woman.

She’s the best wife a husband could ever hope for.

She’s a caring mother to our children.

She’s a friend to so many others, who would give you the shirt off her back.

She’s stuck with me through thick and thin, long before we had things as good as we do today.

Any woman who has the fortitude to be married to an entrepreneur deserves a medal in my book.

Two days ago, my friend Parry Marshall sent out an email talking about his wife Laura, and as I read it, I could have swore he was talking about my own wife.

Our families have so much in common.

Perry talked about a recent interview with his wife Laura, and how it got more positive feedback than anything he’s put out in years.

It reminded me of the first time I shared a video online from my wife Lisa.

It to had more views than anything I’d ever put out.

Lisa’s kind of shy, and it’s hard to talk her into doing that kind of thing, but I certainly know the value she brings to this relationship.

And I certainly wouldn’t where I am today, if it wasn’t for the admiration, love and support of the incredible woman who’s been right by my side through most of it.

I just wanted to take this moment to publicly acknowledge my incredible wife Lisa.

I love you to the moon and back and am honored to be your husband.

I feel like a kid in a candy store and had to share the good news.

Yesterday our daughter Michaela got engaged.

She’s been dating this great guy Matt for quite some time now.

Lisa and I have really come to like him, so you can imagine how happy we are for both of them.

Matt wanted to make his proposal really special, and that he did.

We’d panned a family afternoon at a local park along Puget Sound.

Matt made arrangements in advance by hiding at glass bottle with a note inside in the sand on the beach.

He then took Michaela for a walk on the beach, and along the way, she noticed the bottle sticking out of the sand.

Once she picked the bottle up and saw the note inside, she had to find out what it said.

As she stood there on the beach, reading the note, Matt took a knee in the sand, removed the engagement ring from his pocket, and asked Michaela to marry him,

And as she said yes, my wife Lisa took the photo above.

It truly was a moment to remember, and I couldn’t be happier for both of them.

It’s moments like these that give me pause because I’m so thankful for my family, and the fact that I’m able to spend so much quality time with them.

That’s why I do what I do, so you too can have the kind of income that gives you the opportunity to be there for the people who are most important to you.

Here is my reason “Why”. Today I received a call from a close friend. At the end of the line was a sad somber voice that simply said, “Frank, Tom has passed”. My close and dear buddy dropped DEAD at 48 years old. Left behind his 17 year old daughter and wife of 20 years. Just like that. Game OVER. My heart is aching for his daughter Cassidy. Way too sad.

At 47 it hit me that “I” needed to make a move to “Live”. My “Why” is that I want to spend every moment I can, “Being There” with my girls and my wife. I want to remove the stress and truly “enjoy” the time the Good Lord has given me. Your mission is honorable and I look forward to being 1 of your 10,000.

Wow, wow… WOW!

What an eye opening experience this was.

After reading all the comments you shared on my last two blog posts, I am completely humbled.

As I write this, we did a hosting change on this website last Friday afternoon, and in the process, 38 of your comments for the “My 1997 DUI” post were lost, but that’s ok.

I still got to see them.

I still got to see all the kind words you posted, and Perry Marshall was right.

But…

Before I fill you in on what I’m talking about (and give you the results of this little experiment), I need to say one thing.

Yes, getting that DUI back in 1997 was the most humiliating, embarrassing, shameful and degrading moment of my life, but it was also a turning point.

I’ve never drank and drove again, and every time I think back on that experience, I’m so glad that no one else got hurt.

My close friends and family members all knew about my DUI, but until last Friday, I’d NEVER shared that experience with anyone else.

Last January I was having a conversation with my good friend Perry Marshall, when he made a comment that hit me like a ton of bricks.

He said, “the more open, candid and real you are with people, the more it endears them to you, and it endears them to you in an incredibly powerful way”.

He then went on to give several examples from his own life and business, and how the relationships with his family, friends and clients were strengthened every time he was extremely open, candid and real with them.

For the last 2-1/2 months I’ve been thinking about what Perry said.

And yes, I’d like to think that we already have a great relationship.

Heck, if we didn’t, you wouldn’t bother to open my emails or read my blog posts.

And I’ve always believed in being a guy who tells it like it is.

A guy who’s forthright.

A guy who you can trust.

But there’s a huge difference between being honest… and doing what I did last week.

Last Friday I shared what most would consider a “skeleton from the closet”.

I told you about a particularly dark day from my past.

It’s certainly not the kind of thing one normally talks about in casual conversation.

I thought twice about sharing my DUI story with you, but I’m so glad I did.

It was amazing to read your comments, and see how you responded.

In the process of me doing this, and doing it in such a public place, we proved Perry Marshall’s theory right.

And more importantly, we’ve shown that you can do the very same thing.

Though I shared my DUI story, which on the surface had nothing to do with business or marketing, it had EVERYTHING to do with business.

If you’re like me, and want to use your business to connect with your ideal prospect and impact their life in a meaningful way, what you’ve just witnessed is an excellent way to do that.

By doing this, I’ve connected with you on a deeper level, which further strengthens the foundation for everything else that happens from this point forward.

Earlier this week I shared something personal, not quite knowing what would happen or how you would respond.

Because so many of you took the time to give me your comments, and you were so kind, you inspired me.

You motivated me as well, and now I’ve decided to take things up a notch.

I’m now going to share something that’s REALLY personal.

Something I’ve NEVER talked about in public before.

The DUI I got back in 1997.

As soon as I said DUI, you probably thought to yourself, “DUI?… not Kevin. He’s not the kind of guy who gets a DUI”.

And you’re right.

I’m not the kind of guy who gets a DUI… but I did!

And it was the most humiliating, embarrassing, shameful and degrading moment of my life.

I’d been over visiting with my brother on a hot July Saturday in 1997.

I owned the carpet cleaning business at the time, and I’d been working that day.

I finished work about 2 in the afternoon and headed over to my brothers place.

He was doing some work on his Jeep, getting it ready to go 4-wheeling the next day.

I decided to give him a hand, and as we worked on his Jeep, we had a few beers.

I stayed at Kyle’s house until a little after seven that evening before heading home.

On the way home, I approached a 4-way intersection, and as I made a left turn at the intersection, I saw a police car on my right, and didn’t even give it a second thought.

Shortly after I left the intersection, I notice these flashing red and blue lights in my rear view mirror.

I pulled over, and as the officer approached my window, the first questions he asks is, “How much have you had to drink today”.

I tell him that I’d drank 5 16oz. beers, and he immediately asks me to get out of the vehicle so I could do a field sobriety test.

Until that moment, I hadn’t even considered the fact that I’d done anything illegal, after all, I felt just fine.

Long story short, I got pulled over for failing to use my turn signal.

I was arrested for DUI, taken to the police station, did the breathalyzer and all the other stuff, and throughout the whole process I felt like a criminal.

Like I mentioned earlier it was the most humiliating, embarrassing, shameful and degrading moment of my entire life.

And little did I know at the time, how drastically my life was about to change.

I spent the next 2 years dealing with the choice I’d made that evening, and it cost me over $12,000.00 when everything was said and done.

My close family and friends all know about my DUI, but this is the very first time I’ve EVER talked about it in public.

At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, “Why in the heck is Kevin telling me about this? It has absolutely nothing to do with business or marketing”.

And you’re right. It doesn’t.

At least not on the surface.

What I’m doing is hosting a little experiment.

You were so kind after my last post, that I decided to take this experiment one step further.

Now I’d like to hear from you again.

I just went out on a limb and shared an incredibly personal experience with you.

One that I’ve never shared before (and quite honestly, I’m second guessing myself, and whether I should have done this).

I’d like to hear what your comments are at this point. I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly.

Knowing what you already knew about me, and now being introduced to this new information, what do you think now?

Alright, here we go…

On occasion my wife teases me about all the things I used to do to impress her before we got married.

Stuff like cooking meals, opening doors for her, pulling chairs out for her, buying her little gifts of appreciation and that kind of thing.

That’s not to say that I don’t do any of those things today, because I do.

But…

When you’re raising two children, ages 2 and 4, you don’t always have a lot of time for yourselves.

It takes a concentrated effort to schedule a weekend away for mom and I.

And yes, I’ll admit, I don’t cook breakfast like I used to, but I do take the family out for breakfast on a regular basis.

I did do something recently where I scored some BIG points with Lisa.

A couple weeks ago I took her to Hollywood for the weekend so we could attend Elton John’s Oscar Party.

I’ve been meaning to share some photos on the blog because it was an awesome experience.

We got to meet some incredible people and have a hand in raising 5.2 million for his Aids Foundation.

And like I said, I scored BIG points with Lisa.

I share all this to make a simple analogy, which is that it’s so much better to go through life just being ourselves.

Rather than trying to impress people by conveying an image of ourselves that is somehow different who we really are, it’s way easier to be your authentic self.

Just be who you are, complete with your faults, because it’s ok.

I just shared a few of my faults with you.

In the process, you may have learned something about me that you didn’t know before.

So let me ask you…

For the last couple posts we’ve been talking about the amazing things that happen when the marketing message for your business comes straight from the heart, and connects with your ideal prospect on a deep emotional level.

I also explained that things get REALLY easy as you continue moving in this direction.

Your prospect connects with you, they trust you, they relate to you, and ultimately they become a customer or client by investing in what you have to offer them.

But…

I’ve also discovered another area where things start to get REALLY easy.

As you continue getting your message out there, you find people with considerable influence, who have the ability to help you in a HUGE way.

Because you are so congruent with your message, and what you stand for, not only does your ideal prospect recognize this… but so does everyone else.

In recent months I’ve had people with much bigger businesses than mine, who have resources much bigger than mine, that once they understood what I was trying to accomplish, agreed to help me.

I’ll share an example with you, so you can see what I’m talking about.

I was recently introduced to an extremely high paid consultant who’s got a 30-year reputation of helping business owners.

He charges thousands of dollars for a consulting session, and it’s worth every penny to the business owner who implements the marketing plan that gets created during this session.

During our initial conversation in person (after being introduced by a mutual friend), this gentleman asks what my current BIG business initiative is, and I explain it to him.

When we finished our conversation, he suggests that we exchange contact information – and we did.

The following week I get a big package of marketing information in the mail from him, along with a note that says, “After you’ve gone through this information, get back in touch and let me know what you think”.

Long story short, the information he sent was incredible, and it was just what I needed to help me at that moment in time.

Even though I’d only gone through part of it, I called the following week to thank him for sending it, and let him know how valuable it was to me. He says, “Great, keep going through it, and we’ll talk again soon.

A couple weeks later, I get an email from him, asking how things are going with my new marketing campaign.

I reply to his email and give him the metrics and numbers from my most recent test.

The next day, he replies back, telling me to send all my marketing pieces so he can take a closer look at what I’m doing.

He says that he’s got a busy schedule, and it will probably take a week for him to go through my materials and get back with me.

So… imagine my surprise when I get an email from him the following day, telling me that he’s gone through everything, and asking if I’ve got time to talk on the phone.

I gave him a call, and we spent almost 90 minutes on the phone, as he gave me suggestions for how I could improve the impact my marketing materials were having.

The whole time, I’m thinking to myself, “Why is he going out of his way to thelp me like this?

We’ve only known each other for about a month, yet he’s giving me all this assistance, and he’s doing it for free, when he normally charges thousands of dollars for this kind of service”.

I couldn’t contain myself any longer, and had to ask.

His response was quite instructive, and it also exposed me to the next shift.

He says, “Kevin, you were introduced to me by someone I greatly respect, and they’d already told me a lot of wonderful things about you. But after hearing about your goals, and the difference you want to make in the lives of so many entrepreneurs, I HAD to get involved.

If I can have some small hand in making sure you get to do what you’re wanting to do, then I’m going to feel really good about that”.

That was instructive, and humbling for me to hear, but here’s the most interesting thing about all this…

I keep running into more and more people, just like this, who are doing the same thing.

It just goes to show, that when your message comes from the heart, everything else gets really, REALLY easy.

The other day I told you about all the dramatic change in my marketing message.

It’s gone from “here’s how to have an automated income” to “here’s how to tweak your business so it gives you everything you’ve always wanted from life”.

If you saw all the replies on the blog, you may have noticed one in particular… that hit the nail right on the head.

Larry said,” I have learned and am learning so much from you Kevin, I just want to thank you. I think refining your marketing message is a natural progression that many business owners miss by not asking their clients “What is your greatest challenge?” to uncover additional things they could supply them, and monitoring who they are attracting as clients. We’ve been sharing with each other what has been working for us since 1998 when we met at a Joe Polish seminar. I appreciate your observations here”.

And he’s exactly right.

It’s a natural progression – and most business owners completely miss it because they get so locked into this mentality that says, “This is what I do for a living”.

When I became an advisor back in 2004, one of the things I knew well, was how to make $10-12K a month using the internet, by having a real business, that offered real products and services, to real people.

I’d already accomplished this with my GetMoldSolutions.com website, and there were many people who wanted to know how I did it.

So that’s what I began teaching.

As time went on, and I intentionally structured my own business to provide me with the kind of lifestyle I wanted, my knowledge base grew.

Today, that knowledge is in great demand.

There are MANY entrepreneurs who want to know what I know.

They desperately want a business like mine.

A business that gives them the income they want.

A business that gives them the freedom they want.

A business that gives them great satisfaction from the work they do.

A business that gives them plenty of time to do the things in life they really want to do.

A business where their family ALWAYS comes first.

It’s a natural progression for me to move in this direction, and quite honestly, I’d be doing millions of people a disservice if I didn’t follow through with my intentions.

I possess valuable knowledge that can change the lives of the business owners I come into contact with.

It will also change the lives of their families, and their customers.

By sharing what I know, wives will get their husbands back, children will get their fathers back, families will be transformed, millions and millions of customers will have an incredibly unique and valuable experience… all because these entrepreneurs are now seeing their business (and their role) in a whole new light.

Who would I be if I sat on this knowledge and kept it to myself?

I possess something so valuable, that I need to do everything within my power, to get my message out there, and share it with as many entrepreneurs as I possibly can.

And here’s what’s MOST interesting about all this.

Because I feel so strongly about this, it’s as though there’s not an ounce of resistance, and everything I do further convinces me that I’m doing the right thing.

Through this process, I’ve discovered that things get REALLY easy when you have a message that you’re in complete alignment with.

It’s not like I didn’t have a good message before.

But now I’ve got an incredible message, and it truly resonates with the entrepreneur who’s looking at the business they’ve created, wondering what went wrong because it’s not giving them the kind of life they expected.

I can rock the world of that entrepreneur, because I can show them how to tweak their business, and ultimately get everything they’ve always wanted from life.

And quite honestly, I’m the only person who has the unique knowledge and experience to help them get to where they really want to go.

So let me ask you…
