Flexibility Required

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

In life, things don’t always go as planned.

This week has been a perfect example of that, and these photos clearly show you the wrath and mayhem that fell upon us.

I had plans to work on a big project this week, but mother nature had another idea.

Here in the Northwest, we’ve been hit with a massive winter storm, unlike anything we’ve ever experienced in my lifetime.

We got 17 inches of snow at our home in a 24-hour period on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Because our home sits on a hilltop, and we have an extremely steep (loooong) driveway, I’ve been spending the majority of my time this week, along with my son Jerry – keeping it cleared.

Call me crazy, but I hate the thought of being stuck or stranded.

I need to know that I could get out of here if I had to.

With the amount of snow we got, and short amount of time we got it – it’s been a full-time job trying to keep our driveway clear.

So… I haven’t made much progress on my best laid plans. But I did get to play in the snow with my kids, and they loved it.

As entrepreneurs… we know the same is true of business.

At first, when we’re new to business, we tend to get frustrated, upset and discouraged when things don’t work out the way we’d hoped or planned.

But after awhile, as we continue moving forward, we discover that’s just the way things go.

That’s the life of an entrepreneur.

And the truth is… if we’re a real entrepreneur, we wouldn’t want it any other way.

We know that most of the things we try are NOT going to work out the way we’d like.

But…

We also know that every once in awhile, we’re going to land on something that works out FAR better than we’d hoped.

When that happens – in that moment, we experience a huge breakthrough.

And the smart entrepreneur will leverage that breakthrough so we can capitalize on it for years and years to come.

So know this…

If things aren’t going the way you’d hoped right now, at this moment in time – keep moving forward because your big breakthrough is just around the corner.

Because it’s served me so well, I’ll give you the same advice that someone gave me all the way back in 1999.

The trick is to keep moving forward, and keep showing up.

Most people give up at the first, second or third signs that things aren’t going the way they’d hoped.

If I’d given up in those moments, I’d hate to think where I’d be today.

A Slave To Technology

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Last Friday we traveled half way across the state to visit family for the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, our entire clan went out for dinner, and as we sat at the table waiting for our food to arrive, I HAD to snap this photo to share with you.

My 3-year old son Brock (on the right), and his two cousins on the left, were all glued to their parents smart phones as Elliana (on the far right) looked on.

Sure, as parents, this is a great strategy for keeping small kids entertained at times.

But even though I use it, I still wonder (as a parent) if it’s the right thing to do.

As I watched the kids last Sunday, I couldn’t help but think…

How many of us are a slave to technology, and how many of us are using it to leverage ourselves so that we can actually make more money, expand our business, automate day-to-day tasks… and ultimately enhance our lives?

In my own business, I’m doing a pretty good job of using technology, but even as good as I’ve gotten at doing what I do, there’s still plenty of room for me to improve what I’m doing.

The trick… especially when we spend a fair amount of our time online… is avoiding the “shiny object syndrome” and making use of ONLY the technology that’s a perfect match and fit for our specific goals.

And make no mistake about it:

What’s right for me, may not be right for you.

And what’s right for you, may not be right for me.

There is NOT a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to using technology.

In my own business, I’m very deliberate in the technology I use, as well as the technology I choose not use.

So far, I’ve done a pretty good job of using it to grow my business, leverage my efforts, and enhance my personal life.

But as I continue to move forward, and grow the business even more, I’ll be required to make even more use of technology.

The trick for me, as I alluded to earlier, is to avoid the “shiny object syndrome”.

Over the years I’ve developed a very concise and deliberate method for choosing the technology that’s going to be a right fit for me, for my business, and for the goals I want to reach.

So let me ask you:

Do you feel like you’re a slave to technology… overwhelmed by technology… or do you feel like you’ve got a pretty good grasp on it?

I’m really interested in hearing your thoughts on this, so post them below.

Who knows, if there’s enough interest, maybe I’ll host a bonus event where I walk you through my own “Technology Choosing Process” and show you some of the really cool ways I’m using it in my own business and life.

Be sure to let me know if you’re interested in that as well.

The Funding Formula

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

I promised that if enough of you wanted it, I’d share the “Funding Formula” that our friend Stephen used to get over $5,000.00 in funding for his brand new business… which gave him the kick start he needed.

And keep in mind, he did this with absolutely NO previous business experience or knowledge.

If you’re a subscriber of mine, and have been following the strategies I’ve been sharing with you… you know more about business than Stephen does.

So… here it is… The Funding Formula

1. Realize that you DO have something of value to offer.

As I mentioned before, when I first suggested to Stephen that he could make a nice income doing what he does, he was completely closed to the idea because he felt that he had nothing of value to offer other people.

I don’t know when the change took place, but at some point in the last year, Stephen came to the realization that he DOES have something of value to offer other people.

This is CRITICAL if you expect to get funding for your business.

If you don’t believe in the value you have to offer, no one else will either, and they certainly won’t be willing to give you any funding.

You’ve got to believe in yourself, and what you’re preparing to do.

2. Share your story and explain WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.

People want to know who you are, why you’re doing what you do. Stephen explained this in extremely simple language… both on the Kickstarter website, and in his video.

And most importantly… he came across ad being completely honest, authentic and believable. After hearing his story, you couldn’t help but want to get involved and help him out.

3. Explain WHAT your project or intention is so people can decide if they want to get involved.

People need to know what they’re funding. Once again, Stephen explained what he was planning to do, which was create a series of paintings.

Very simple to do, yet it’s a critical part of the funding formula.

If you missed it before, be sure to click the link in the post below so you can see Stephen’s video for yourself.

4. Follow up after the process and keep everyone updated.

Once again, this is critical. Be sure to keep people in the loop, especially if they helped fund your project.

The worst thing you could do is leave them hanging… wondering how there funds were put to use.

As a side note, I’ve been in contact with Stephen and may have the opportunity to follow up on his project by doing an interview with him.

If that happens, I guarantee it will be informative, as well as inspiring.

If you’re interested in hearing more from Stephen, and would like a copy of the interview if I do it, be sure to let me know.

Kickstarting Your Business

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Ever hear of a website called KickStarter.com?

It’s a website for people (mostly entrepreneurs like us) who are looking to get funding for their business project in order to get it off the ground.

By putting together a short video that told his story and explained what he was hoping to accomplish, our friend Stephen was able to attract $5,270.00 in funding, which was more than he was asking for.

And just like that, in a matter of days, he had the funding he needed in order to move forward with his project.

Most people mistakenly think that getting funding for their business project is difficult… yet Stephen just proved that it’s really quite simple.

Especially when you follow a tested and proven formula.

And by the way, Stephen used it brilliantly.

Click Here To See His Video

A new window will open so you don’t loose your spot.

As you watch it, see if you can spot the formula.

Then post your thoughts below.

Let’s have a little fun with this.

I want to hear from you.

If enough of you respond, I’ll be back next week to share the formula.

If you’re looking to get funding for YOUR business project, this formula will be INVALUABLE.

But…

I’m only going to share it if we get some responses going to this, so let’s hear from you.

Your “Business Transformation”

Monday, November 28th, 2011

If you’re an existing business owner, and want 2012 to mark “Your Business Transformation”… Go Here Now.

I’m hosting a one-of-a-kind live event this Wednesday – just for business owners.

During this event, I’ll do FAR more than tell you about my business transformation… I’ll introduce you to your own!

I remember my best year in the carpet cleaning business… it was 1999.

And let me tell you, from the outside looking in, everyone thought things were going great.

Everyone thought… WOW, Kevin sure is doing well… he sure does have a successful business.

BUT… on the inside, I’m thinking to myself. “I’m working my tail off, 70+ hours a week, and this business has a strangle hold on me”.

Yeah, I was grossing some pretty decent numbers, but by the time I paid my employees and covered all the overhead, it wasn’t like I was rolling in the dough.

And there were other consequences too.

Serious consequences!

My family and everything else that was important to me had taken a back seat to that doggone business.

There was this serious push and pull going on between my business and my personal life.

When I was at work, I felt really guilty for not spending enough quality time with my family.

And when I was taking the little bit of time that I did take off… I had this nagging voice in the back of my mind… constantly reminding me of all the things I needed to get done at work.

Here I was, looking good on the outside, supposedly doing really well… but I gotta tell you, the rewards sure weren’t what I thought they were supposed to be.

Then…

One day, while I was sitting at my desk, taking a close look at the business I’d created, that’s when it hit me – like a TON OF BRICKS.

I figured out what I’d been doing wrong!

Could it really be that simple?

I had to put my notion to the test, and sure enough, I was right.

By following a simple process, I was able to transform my entire business, and ultimately my life.

And now, I’m going to share the “5-Step Transformation Process” with you, so you can do the same thing for yourself.

This simple 5-step process will give you…

A business that fits in perfectly with, and funds the kind of lifestyle you truly want to have.

A business that’s a natural extension of the person you were meant to be.

A business that lets you provide value to others in a way that ONLY you can, and compensates YOU extremely well, for doing what you love.

A business that lets you be the hero for your family, as well as the customers and clients you serve.

To join us, Go Here Now.

I look forward to speaking with you.

Need 401K Or Retirement Help?

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Is your retirement nest egg in dire straits?

What if I could help you make your IRA or 401K go further?

Are you willing to take matters into your own hands… instead of letting it just sit there… wasting away… while forces beyond your control continue to make the situation worse?

If so, I might just have the answer you’ve been looking for.

My friend Richard Geller has been helping people just like you, rebuild their retirement nest egg… using NO money of their own.

I first met Richard back in 2007 at one of Matt Furey’s seminars.

If you remember, that was when the big shift started taking place in our economy.

Since that time, Richard has already helped more than 9,000 people just like you, by showing them how take matters into their own hands, and rebuild their retirement nest egg.

If there’s enough interest, I’ll ask him to host a private event for you.

Maybe we can even make it happen before the end of December.

But…

As always, you’re calling the shots.

I need to know that you’d get value from something like this.

I need to hear from you.

Post your comments below if you want Richard’s help.

If there’s enough response, I’ll make it happen.

If there’s not enough interest, I won’t give it another second of my attention.

So… it’s up to you.

If you want help rescuing your 401K or IRA retirement nest egg, from someone who’s already helped more than 9,000 others, I need to hear from you right now.

Is Change Good Or Bad?

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Last Saturday morning I was on a flight returning home from a trip to Arizona, and as we came in for a landing in Seattle I couldn’t help but notice the incredible fall view.

I snapped the photo above so I could show you what I’m talking about.

I love fall in the Northwest, mostly because the change of seasons is such a beautiful thing to watch.

I almost hate to see fall come to an end.

As I took in this amazing view, I couldn’t help but think about the changes in our lives, and how they too are a beautiful thing.

Problem is… most people don’t see it that way.

Most people view change as a bad thing.

A thing they want to avoid.

A thing that’s painful.

To be honest, I too used to think this way at one time.

But not any longer.

I’ve had too many experiences over the years, which have proven to me that change is a VERY good thing.

When I look back at where I’ve come from, I can’t help but be amazed by all the changes in my life… from Alaska Fisherman, to carpet cleaner, to “mold guy”, to respected marketing and business authority in the niche I serve.

And now, because I have the goal of introducing One Million people to the concept of having their own Lifestyle-Business… I find myself in the middle of yet another HUGE change in my life.

The only difference between me and most folks, is that I have previous experiences with such change, and know it’s a very good thing.

I know that while change might cause some anxiousness in the short term, the long term benefits will far outweigh that feeling.

At the moment, in order to move toward my own big goal, I’m making some big changes inside my business.

One of those changes include making the switch from one piece of software (that I’ve been using since 2003) to a new piece of software that’s all new to me.

Needless to say, making the switch has caused some anxiousness in my life, but at the same time, doing so will allow me to grow the business and serve my clients in a way that just wasn’t possible before.

Maybe you too are going through, or have gone through some changes in the past, and those changes made your life better.

They might have been changes in your business, changes in a relationship, changes in your job, changes in your family.

If you’ve got an experience with this, I’d love to have you share it.

By doing so, you can use your experience to impact the life of someone that you don’t even know yet.

So go ahead… share your experience by posting your comments below.

And…

If my words, or the words of anyone else who’s shared their experiences on this topic have made an impact on you, be sure to let us know that as well.

After all, that’s the whole purpose of this blog… to make a positive difference in your life.

And quite frankly, if I thought for a second that we weren’t doing that on a regular basis, I wouldn’t even bother to keep it going.

So lets hear what YOU have to say.

How To Shatter Limiting Beliefs

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

For the last several months I’ve been dealing with, and shattering some of my limiting beliefs.

Yes… I have to deal with stuff like that too, just like everyone else.

Fortunately, I’m surrounded by people who really care about me, and are willing to give me the “straight scoop” when I need to hear it.

And… more importantly… I’m open to making changes in my life that will better serve me.

We ALL have limiting beliefs, yet most of us don’t even realize it.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about.

Not too long ago a friend told me a story from his past, when he was in 2nd grade.

The teacher had he and the rest of the kids sitting in a circle, and each of them would take a turn at reading a book.

When the book was passed to my friend, and it was his turn to read, he struggled with a few of the words.

As we all know, when kids are learning to read, this is quite common.

But… as my friend struggled a little bit, a couple girls sitting next to him began to snicker.

They then said, “You sure are stupid because you can’t read”.

The effect that one comment had on my friend was incredible.

For the next 27 years he carried with him the belief that he was stupid.

All because of one comment from a couple girls in 2nd grade.

Fortunately, he was at a seminar where the subject of limiting beliefs was being addressed, and once he realized what had happened, he was able to make the necessary changes in his thought pattern.

Here’s another example. This one comes from my own life.

If you’ve been with me for any period of time, you know that I used to own a carpet cleaning business, and that business had grown to the point where I’d hired employees to help me get all the work done.

My experience at hiring employees was definitely less than favorable, so when I sold that business, I vowed to NEVER have employees again.

That limiting belief, that employees are a bad thing, has been with me since 1999.

Even with it in place, I’ve been able to build my current business to the level it’s at.

But…

I’ve now hit a ceiling in my business, and in order to break through it, I’ve been forced to deal with my limiting beliefs about employees.

Fortunately, my vision for the business has been expanded, and as you may know, I’m on a mission to introduce 1 Million people to the fact that they really can have a business that fits in with, and funds the kind of life they truly want to have.

This vision could not become a reality with my current belief system regarding employees in place.

Because I’m so motivated by this vision, it forced me to look at the limiting beliefs that were standing in my way, and change them.

With that said, I wanted to share this list of 25 limiting beliefs I found as I was doing some personal research.

In sharing them, I wanted to do a little exercise.

Maybe you’ve got some of these limiting beliefs (or others that aren’t on the list).

If so, try to think back to the point in time that the belief came into being for you, and what were the circumstances.

When you do this, it causes you to question some of those beliefs.

Here’s the list. Take a look at it, and see if any of them relate to you. I’ll then close out by letting you know how to shatter your limiting beliefs.

1. It’s not safe; I need to stay safe

2. I’m now worthy, good enough, lovable enough

3. I don’t deserve good things

4. Something terrible will happen

5. It’s greedy to want more

6. More for me means less for others

7. Others will resent me, be jealous

8. Others won’t approve of me, will criticize me, judge me

9. I need other’s approval

10. It’s not safe to shine, to stand out

11. I need to struggle; life has to be a struggle

12. I am a victim

13. I am a martyr

14. I am a savior

15. I need to take care of everyone else before me

16. I can do it better than anyone

17. I need to work hard

18. I can’t change

19. I’m too old; I’m too young

20. I missed my chance, it’s too late for me

21. The economy is bad; it’s not the right time

22. I don’t have the necessary resources – money, time, intelligence, training,
credentials, creativity, help, friends, family, etc.

23. I’m too screwed up by my past and I can’t get over it

24. I can’t do hard things

25. Failure is shameful

So…

Did you recognize any of these limiting beliefs from your own life?

If so, would you agree that they’re standing in the way of you getting to where you want to be in life?

Are they holding you back?

Now that you realize what’s going on, doesn’t it make you just a little bit angry?

I hope so, because that’s the first step to doing something about them.

The next step is to replace the limiting with a non-limiting belief.

In my own situation, I began looking at other business owners I knew who had GREAT employees. Employees who had been with them for a LONG time.

I then told myself, “If they can have great employees who are excited to be involved with their business, so can I”.

By replacing my limiting belief with one that served me better, I was able to find a gal that’s now been helping me grow this business so I can continue on with my mission.

We’re 3 months into the process, and I’m wishing that I hired her a long time ago.

So…

What’s one of your limiting beliefs, and what are you going to replace it with?

I’d love to her from you, and know that I’ve made a positive impact on your life today.

Post your comments below.
