I Just Want Your $$$

I got an email from Perry Marshall the other day, and he was talking about an interesting thing that happened at one of his recent seminars.

One of the presenters wanted to walk the attendees through an exercise, so he asks them, “What is the WORST email subject line that you could possibly send to your customer”?

People started shouting…

“Nothing I told you to do last year actually works.”

“All my testimonials are fake.”

“The only thing I want is your money.”

Upon reading this, it really made me think… back to when I started my first business in 1996.

At that time in my life, money was my driving motivation.

That’s why I started my business in the first place – to make money.

But today, things are much different.

I’m motivated by the work I get to do, because it gives me an incredible sense of purpose and meaning in my life.

By sharing the experiences and discoveries that have shaped my life over the years, I get to make a huge and lasting impact on other people’s lives.

I can’t imagine doing anything, other than what I’m doing right now.

Yes, things have certainly changed since 1996, and the most interesting thing is the fact that once I took my focus off “the money”, and put it on what was REALLY important, the money just started to come in.

But as I look around at everything going on these days, I see that the majority of people are still focused on money.

This is true when it comes to business owners and consumers alike.

The reason they’re so focused on money is because they feel that they don’t have enough of it.

They feel that it’s lacking in their lives.

And it creates an interesting dynamic.

Many business owners become more determined to make a buck, and will do almost anything to make it happen, even if that means being dishonest.

At the same time, consumers become more and more skeptical, afraid to trust anyone.

It’s this distrust that causes people to lash out, even if their accusations are unfounded.

Case in point:

I just got an email the other day from someone calling me a fraud and a scam artist.

This person had found my website, browsed around a little bit, and came to this conclusion without ever getting to know me.

Such emails used to really bother me, but because I understand what’s happening, that’s no longer the case.

I know that not everyone is going to see eye-to-eye with me.

But when you do feel a connection, well, that’s when the magic starts to happen.

Because I’ll help you uncover the person that you were meant to be.

That authentic genuine person that you are at the core and center of yourself.

And I’ll help you discover what YOU were meant to be doing with your life, as a career, as a job, as a vocation, or what kind of business – that person who you really are, would be building.

And I’ll give you the tools to build that business.

So that instead of waking up in the morning, and saying “I’m going to work”, YOU wake up in the morning and say, “Another day of getting to be who I am”.

Which by the way, is what you do for a living.

Dedicated to your success,

    Kevin,

I’ve listened to two of your webinars and I have to tell you that in my experience you are the most genuine and sincere “coach” I’ve come across. I’d like to find a way to work with you to get my online business off the ground.

    Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,

I really appreciate you talking with us,about these things that go on at seminars, you see I am quite new to on-line programs and haven’t been to any seminars, I try to stick with people that know say, Bryan Tracy, and some of the friends of Vic Conant from Nightengale Connant, I agree you have to feel a trust with someone you only know from the internet and if you are likely to trust almost anybody, you get scammed. I knew you were a trustworthy guy and that is why I want to do business with you in lieu of others who even call the house disturb my dinner and say I’ll get something for nothing just my story. That just doesn’t happen these days. There are some good guys on the Internet and that’s who I want to subscribe to, the others are sneaky, don’t tell the truth, and other things I don’t want to mention. One day I hope to go to some of the seminars and learn what Marketing people are all about.

  5. Hi Kevin, Though I do believe you, I’m afraid I’m simply not a candidate for your service because my small military pension isn’t even enough to get me through the month. And despite media claims to the contrary, I am experiencing considerable inflation in the costs of food and other necessities.

My last reply, I had already explained this, unfortunately.

However, my sable Burmese cat, Symba passed on last week, after twenty years of wonderful companionship. I mentioned this because I am looking to replace her with what is known as an Ocicat, which has leopard spots, is very outgoing and friendly, and can be trained to walk on a leach.

Ocicats are not that readily available, so this may take a few months. Nevertheless, since I’m already 86 years old and in tip-top health, living in a wealthy retirement area (Sedona, AZ), I got the idea of gettin ahold of a leapord costume and going out with the Ocicat to visit the shut-in or hospitalized elderly. Wouldn’t that be extra-special?

I could do this in connection with The Church of the Red Rocks, where I’ve been a dedicated member for years. The church membership is mostly of the financially favored, so my project would fit right in.

This activity would be gratis. However, it could be a toe in the door for other projects. I’ve had good experiences when following my heart in exceptional projects because one good thing often leads to another. If nothing else, once off the ground, it could even lead to national publicity.

    Sincerely,

    Patrick, the gray panther

  6. Oops, actually I’m only 68 not 86, and I feel like I’m 29, climbing Sedona mountains two or three times a week!

Once I get my head a bit above water, Kevin, I expect to be benefiting from working your program.

    Kevin,
First off I love your subject line. It is almost funny and I opened your email first because you triggered that curious bug inside me! Anyway you have a great message to follow it. You are so right that a shift takes place when what you do is in alignment to who you are. It is an incredible place to be!

Best wishes to your growing family!

I know from experience that people are afraid of the internet because of a few people who
aren’t honest and I do not all. One bad apple spoils the bunch, and that is what the internet has become because of a few who I had some experiences with only want money and forget that you have to add value to your product in order to make a cutomer and keep them. Thank you

Doing a lot of “soul searcing”. Just read a book by Kenneth Behring – Road to Purpose. As people gain wealth they want MORE, BIGGER, DIFFERENT as they progress and then start to wonder “What’s the PURPOSE?” You’ve found your purpose. Mine is along the lines of “serving” or “giving back” in some way. Just what that is I’m still trying to figure out and hoefully your program will lead me there.
    thanks,
    glenn

  12. Hola Kevin;
I am interested in your program for two reasons. One, it will make money for me. Two,
it will help fulfill my desire to help others. Bonus reason, you are the real deal.

    Thank you Kevin,

Your final lines really hit me when I though of really waking up in the morning
and saying, “Another day of getting to be who I am”.
‘Which by the way, is what I do for a living.’

What a refreshing and inspirational thought!
I want at some point to share a “Chocolate Longevity diet to stay young and healthy”. Since I follow this diet with great results, I look forward to helping others do the same:)

    Hi Kevin,

I can’t image anyone saying anything of that nature to you. I haven’t known you very long but you have the best personallity of all the Coaches that I have dealt with. And that is the reason I have stayed with you. You are most interested in the people that you work with and want them to succeed in every way of life. You think about their future and know how great it can be for them when they are finished.
Let’s face it we all work for money that is what makes the world go around.
Keep up the good work that you are doing and knowning that God is blessing you, your business, and your family.
    Betty
