The Wrong Number Miracle

After seeing a post by my friend Brett on his Facebook page, I had to check this out for myself.

This article was published by NBC San Diego, and it will make your day.

Virginia Saenz could hear the desperation in the voice of the telephone message. It was 5 a.m. on the day before Thanksgiving, and the caller, Lucy Crutchfield, was trying to tell her daughter that she’d send money for groceries — but she’d have to miss a mortgage payment to do it.

But Crutchfield dialed the wrong number. Instead of getting her daughter, she got Saenz, a real estate agent from the San Diego suburb of Tierrasanta.

“I know right now we are all struggling,” Saenz said. “Lisa on the phone, she sounded so desperate for her daughter, it broke my heart.”

Saenz did the only thing she could think of — she called Crutchfield back and said not to worry. Crutchfield would pay the mortgage, and Saenz would handle the groceries.

“She said, ‘You have the wrong number … don’t worry any more,’ ” Crutchfield recalled.

For Crutchfield, it was a holiday miracle. Her house is already in foreclosure. Her mother recently passed away, and Crutchfield is now trying to pay off her house. She had a money order prepared to make a mortgage payment on that house — but was going to cash it in when her daughter called asking for money.

“I thought I was going to lose that house, too,” Crutchfield said.

Saenz told Crutchfield to keep her money and promised to take care of her daughter. The real estate agent then called Crutchfield’s daughter.

“I asked her what she would like, what her kids like, and then I felt really bad because she said she only wanted eggs and milk,” Saenz said. “When somebody only asks you for eggs and milk, they are in a really bad situation.”

So Saenz went grocery shopping on Thanksgiving morning with her 14-year-old son in tow to tell her what kids liked to eat. They bought food for a Thanksgiving dinner and enough groceries to get Crutchfield’s daughter through the end of the month — her next payday.

She said the act of giving made “the day special for me.”

“I helped somebody,” Saenz said Friday. “I think it’s what anybody would have done.”

See…

Told you that it would make your day.

I hope it inspires you to pay it forward, and do something special for someone else this Holiday Season.

    Dear Kevin,
What a lovely story. Unfortunately I have to say that there are a few in the world that would not have done what Saenz did. God Bless here for rising to the occasion and being the good person that the Lord wanted her to be. If all folk would treat others as they themselves would like to be treated every day and not just holidays; this old world would be a much happier place.

Great story to share ….. angels all with good hearts and spirits make miracles and these are real people with GOD at work in their lives. I believe in miracles and I only need to open my heart, my eyes, my head and my spirit to receive with grace and thanksgiving. Perla Rizalina M. Tayko

This is what makes America so great!.. Many times over I have seen first hand that Americans are the greatest people in this planet!.. Why?.. because they will give unselfishly of themselves, and their time and effort and want nothing back in return!..

This is the spirit that made America Great – the spirit of helping your neighbor when in time of troubles – and we have had our share – and will have many more of that I am certain – but whatever little we can give – we do!.. We feel the same way in many instant and thats is what the sould of this nation is all about!..

Giving to oneself and to another without hesitation!.. I am proud to be an American – and proud of the people that call themselves – American!.. God bless this nation and its people!.

Wonderful story Kevin. It is nice to know that the news media will publish good news on occasion. You usually do not hear about the great things that people do only the negative. Thank you for sharing the story.

What a wondeful way to show the true meaning of what the holiday season should be. Maybe it might inspire all of us to show a little more gratitude for what we do have and what a little kindness can do for someone else. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” My mother was always pounding this into our heads as children and ya know, I find myself doing the same to my own children now.
Many thanks for sharing such a great story and a message to us all.
Happy Holidays to all this Holiday Season.

    Hi Kevin,

These are the things I like to hear because in a sense we all need to help and take care of each other the best way that we can. Last winter I bought a cord of wood for my neighbor, who is alone, on social security and working part time, because I didn’t see much smoke coming from his chimney and after sneaking over to check his wood pile in the shed, and the weather was really bad last year, I ordered him a cord of wood. Oh Boy! was he grateful. I also have another person I know in financial trouble who was behind in her storage unit payment so I paid $100 to the unit manager to apply to her bill. I am on social security and have no retirement but I am working 2 days a week cleaning and trying as money permits to get my website going. I love helping people in any way that I can, whether it be financially or inspirationally, and somehow I seem to manage a little bit of both. God Bless all those who care enough to help to make someone else feel good! Don’t just send a Hallmark card give of yourself because it is so much more rewarding.

Hey, I love this heart warming, true story. I believe that most people would have done the same thing. That is to first understand what was going on, and then to act on it, with kindness and much Love. How about YOU. Thank you for sharing.

I have been in a position in my life to help out people in a jam and it did not hurt. In fact it felt good to help. Then I had money and now I don’t Thanks to our wonderful economy. The ones I was able to help , all I ever asked of them was to help some down the line. What goes around comes around. God bless you all and think of those in real need.

  15. Hi Kevin:

What a wonderful story. Virginia Saenz must know that it is more blessed to give than to
receive. She will be blessed beyond measure for this wonderful deed. Can you even imagine
what this world would be like if it was full of people like Virginia. It would be a much
better place to live in and we wouldn’t have nearly as much starvation. Thanks for sharing Kevin.

Yes, truly an inspiring example of what we all can do to help others less fortunate. At present, my cash flow simply doesn’t exist, but I look forward to a more prosperous year.

I,too, have started a business on the internet and hope to have enough to pay off all my debts soon and look forward to helping many people to enjoy a better lifestyle, also.

  17. Kevin, this story brings tears to my eyes. Being disabled and struggling myself. With the food I get, the stuff I don’t eat I give to neighbors who are in need. I wish I could say the same of our banking system. Jesus said do unto others as you would want others do unto you. The real estate agent lives those words. I’ve reading a book called The Think Big Manifesto by Michael Port. He says that we can solve all are problems by creating a new mindset. Think Big for we are all in this together and WE are the Ones who will Save this Country by Paying It Forward. We can and will for the Politicians are clueless. The changes in America has always been Grassroots for We KNOW that a Mind not guided by the Heart is not Right Living. God Bless Us Everyone Love & Light Damian DaLight aka Damian Harvest

  18. Thanks Kevin! yes! It made my day! I’ve had a bad one tell i read this! It’s just makes you want to give, give, give and that’s what Christmas is, PROUD TOBE AND AMERICAN!

Great story Kevin. There are lots of good “doers” around us. It’s just harder to see them when the “news” people just report the bad news.

    Great job!

  20. Sarai says:

There are opportunities all around us to help one another. We must suspend judgment and suspicion of another motive and plight. I have learn to just be spontaneous when someone need me. It makes life significant. When I share my “giving/helping” experiences with my family, I am cautioned and rediculed for being too soft-hearted. Right now I am unemployed. I know that the deeds that I have done in the past have been stored in the Storehouse of God and will serve to bring me good fortune as well.

  21. Stephanie Cheff says:

What a great opportunity for Virginia Saenz to get bigger. Actions like that Blow down our walls and awaken us to our possibilities. Real Power

  22. Louise Sandoval: I Thank God for people with a giving heart, Its not invain. The word Of God tells us “if you give you shall recieve” Also wit the measure you mete, it shall be given unto you. also says,”if you done it to this, my brothers, you have done it to me; this was Jesus talking. So you see, this person will be rewarded. God will bless this person.

  23. Lee Bryant says:

Kevin, Thanks a million for sharing this heart warming story of someone helping, caring and of generosity. The Holidays for a lot of people are very difficult and a depressing time of the year. However, acts of kindness like this can make are the difference to a family who is less fortunate and in need of help. I applaud the new media for their effort in reporting this story of inspiration. I have the belief that every city in America should have a new station that only reports the positive things that occur daily on a local bases. I think having this kind of station would create more positive thinking in our world and our communities and would inspire others to take action and spread some kindness and brotherly love! Like the song says “What the world needs now is love sweet love”. Again, thanks for sharing, and Happy Holiday!
